TEQUILA
Tequila is famous throughout the world as the traditional drink of Mexico, and the economic power of this sparsely populated town with the same name, is based upon the production and heritage of this legendary spirit. Tequila is located about 1 hour from Guadalajara and close to 4 hours from Puerto Vallarta. If you're traveling from Guadalajara, why not arrive in style on the "Tequila Express", an old fashioned train that includes a tour of the town, music, food and of course, a tasting session!

You'll know when you're getting close to Tequila because the barren landscape begins to turn an amazing shade of blue, caused by the sea of Agave plants, which tequila is distilled from. The town itself is dusty, small and unassuming much like many other towns in the area, however, Tequila is steeped in history and tradition dating back more than 200 years to the time of the Toltex Indians, who first discovered the "power" of this unique plant.

While here, don't miss out on the opportunity of visiting the "Museum of Tequila". Although small, it has the largest collection of tequila memorabilia in the world, including artifacts and barrels from all the major brands to photography and art depicting the history of this famous drink. There are also many original portraits of the founding fathers of this fascinating industry, including the first man to get an official producers license from the Spanish crown, Jose Antonio Cuervo. From tours of the haciendas' and factories, to a hike through the agave fields, the picturesque town of Tequila has it all. Taste the many different types of tequila from the Joven to the Anejo, enjoy fine cuisine, music and mariachis, but please don't drive home!
